Arboricultural, Ecological & Landscape Design Services – Car Park Expansion Project

PJC Arboriculturists, Ecologists and Landscape Design team worked closely with Wealden District Council during the design and construction phase of their project to extend a public car park.
The expansion was required to provide additional parking spaces for Crowborough Town. The retention of mature trees and woodland habitat surrounding the car park was of paramount importance for the scheme to be considered feasible, therefore an engineered solution was sought that provided the additional parking bays without impacting upon adjacent trees.
PJC arboriculturists worked alongside civil engineers to design a scheme that utilised an above ground, no-dig surface that could be installed without impacting upon adjacent trees. The existing car park surface was raised to match the new and above ground timber sleepers installed used to support the cellular confinement system to avoid any form of excavation. A porous tarmac was used for the final wearing course to maintain moisture ingress and gasses exchange to the tree roots below. The scheme was finished by implementing a detailed landscaping plan that incorporated a number of ecological enhancements.
