Tree Protection Strategy For New Footpath Adjacent Ancient Trees

PJC's team of experienced and qualified arboriculturists provided technical assistance during the design, planning and construction of a permanent footpath adjacent to several ancient trees.
PJC Consultancy assisted a local Parish Council on arboricultural matters for the planning and delivery of a replacement permanent footpath that ran through a group of ancient trees. An existing unsurfaced track had been used for many years by residents of a nearby modern housing estate to gain access to the village and school. A surfaced path was needed to provide year round access by the residents whilst protecting the trees from long term soil compaction.
PJC’s arboricultural team initially conducted a tree survey and a tree constraints plan, highlighting the construction constraints posed by the trees, including the root protection areas, crown spreads and crown heights. This information is key for designing the new footpath and formulating a tree protection strategy.
Working closely with the design team and contractors, PJC produced an arboricultural method statement and tree protection strategy that was submitted as part of a successful planning application. Site supervision and ongoing monitoring was completed by PJC throughout the construction phase to ensure the tree protection strategy had been fully adhered to and maintained to safeguard the trees and ensure successful their future retention.
