Tree Protection Strategy for Belgrove House - New-Build Office and Laboratory in Kings Cross

PJC Consultancy worked closely with the design team for the redevelopment of Belgrove House, a new-build specialised laboratory and office building for the life-sciences sector.
Located in a prime urban setting, Belgrove House required a strategic approach to meet planning, regulatory, and stakeholder requirements. Belgrove House is a landmark development that demanded a high level of coordination across multiple disciplines. PJC Consultancy was appointed to provide specialist support, ensuring the project progressed smoothly from concept through to completion.
Belgrove House has been designed to achieve high levels of sustainability, incorporating whole-life carbon assessment to minimise emissions across construction, operation, and future adaptation. The scheme integrates green infrastructure through planted terraces and a comprehensive landscape strategy, enhancing urban biodiversity and contributing to a greener streetscape. The development also delivers wider public realm improvements, activating previously inactive frontages, rationalising street clutter, and introducing consistent greening to all elevations, significantly enhancing the character and usability of the surrounding area.
PJC’s arboricultural team carried out a comprehensive BS 5837:2012–compliant tree survey to support the design and planning process for Belgrove House. Our specialists worked closely with the project team to provide clear arboricultural guidance, ensuring the successful integration and protection of several high‑value London plane trees located within the adjacent Argyle Square.
Through detailed assessment and early collaboration, we helped shape a design an approach that respected the established tree stock while enabling the development to move forward confidently and in line with best‑practice standards.
